F90 ECM question

I'm very familiar with the simple epoxy-potted plastic case of my F225 ECM-

so I was taken aback yesterday at seeing the ECM of a 2006 F90

the only thing I can imagine is that there is "air space" within the case

and that is a "vent"...

Manufacturing process? Is the plate you refer to molded plastic or epoxy? If molded plastic, maybe that is how the inject the epoxy?

LOL I did try touching it - no feeling that it moved.

Definitely looked like a silicone o-ring down in there.


But I wasn't curious enough to unplug and remove the whole thing

which actually brings up another mystery:

why did they sprinkle kitty litter in with the potting epoxy?

not only that, but they need less epoxy if they put fillers in and do not change the properties of it if the filler does not mix to dilute the original

Not really a de-rail, but related...

My old transducer has a similar (looks the same actually) material to seal water out.

Overtime, it has begun to leak. IE, it appears to melt and then leakage out the back of the unit.

I tried epoxying it, no go... I did find a new oem transducer (their not made anymore) and this one IS still working (for now).

If I could "re-seal" my current one and get a couple more years put of it would be great.

It does appear that the sun cooked it and that's what liquefied the inerds.

It does NOT see the sun with the canopy over the boat(on the lift).

Anyone ever "re-seal" this (it'd be the same as doing an ECU)??
