  • CPS Crankshaft Position Sender (Sensor)

I have a feeling my CPS on my 80 hp Yamaha Outboard (C80TLRV) is bad but I do not know and can not find out how many volts I should be reading at the connector when the engine is running. I read 11.8 volts but I don't know if that is good or bad. Anyone have an idea?

what are you using to measure this voltage?
do you have a service manual for your motor?

I do have the service manual and it says the resistance should be between 158 and 238 ohms. That checks out OK, but, I think the voltage output is the real test. I measured the voltage with a digital multimeter on the DC scale.

using a peak reading meter or a digital meter with a DVA adapter.

        wires blue/red and blue/white.
        loaded cranking 5.5v.
        loaded at 1500 rpm 2.5v.

Did you use a DVA adapter with your meter?

I suspect the specs Rod posted are minimum because that is how Yamaha lists the spec on stuff I have seen

Didn't use a DVA adaptor. Didn't know such a thing existed.
