Year model? 25hp missing serial number

Anybody know how to determine year model without serial number? Serial number was painted over by previous owner. I believe that this is a late 90's or early 2000 model. 25hp, 2 cycle, pull start.

Look at the cdi and see what markings you can find. Also, the carburetor(s).

Does the motor use premix? Here is a C25 that uses a 695-11 CDI.

Actually, it looks as if all of the C and CV25's used a 695-11 CDI. Also, they are two cylinder single carburetor motors.

It does use premix. It looks the models from 91-97 are pretty similar. I am beginning to think that I have a 95-97 model.

The shift lever is in the starboard side of the engine cowl, not on the tiller like some models. Not sure when the shifter was moved.

All of the images shown in the C25/CV25 parts catalogs at the Yamaha website show the shift lever on the side of the motor. None of the tiller handles show the shift control mounted on them.

Other 25 HP models (non C/CV) in later years used the shift lever adjacent to the tiller handle.
