  • 9.9D Carb Help!

    OK Gentlemen,

I recently purchased a beautiful looking 9.9D 682C Yamaha outboard. I've been working on combustion engines for 20 years and it's an obvious carb problem(prop, water pump, spark plugs and lube has been replaced). The issue is I can't find the carb for this serial number anywhere, and neither can the dealer. I'm thinking it was a one off, but there has to be an interchangeable carb out there. Any thoughts guys??

is it in such bad shape it cannot be cleaned and reused?

I do not think you have given enough info for anyone to look up your motor.
I am sure you will not find it on this web site if your motor is not one that was shipped/sold here

Why oh why is it so difficult to give us the complete model identity. The complete engine ID would be even better still.

I can't speak for the others but I am not a mind reader.

Here in the USA (not sure where you are located) we had a 9.9SD, a 9.9LD, a 9.9ESD and a 9.9ELD. All are 1990 models. Is one of these your models?

      Carburetors are all still available.

Sorry guys, the full model number is:

          9.9D 682CS 042047

Is that enough info for you? I can take a photo and send it to you if necessary. It's at a mechanics so I'd have to run over there to do so. He has cleaned it and rebuilt it twice and it's clogged. I think it had some water sitting in it for a while. I'm new to the outboard **** but a motor is a motor, I just need a new carb.

            That is what is needed.

            Looks to be circa 1993.

All of the USA 1993 model 9.9 two strokes (four different models) used a 6E7-14301-74-01 carburetor. That same carburetor is used on 1984 thru 1995 9.9s. See here for yourself:

            6E7-14301-74-00 YAMAHA CARBURETOR ASY 1

I would guess that your motor also uses this same carburetor. Inspect your carburetor carefully and see if you can find any markings on it. Or call and ask your mechanic to do it. If you/he see 6E7 for example that will confirm what it is.

$247 and change for a new one. Plus shipping and other junk fees.

            You are welcome.

has he tried using a heated ultrasonic bath to clean the carb on yours?

You (or he) can buy an good ultra sonic cleaner much cheaper than a new carb and still have it once yours is working...

Pretty much a basic tool for any shop.

Or even carb dip ($18.00) to soak it in and get to the clogged spot:

                Just a thought but it's your $.

                Good luck..

if it is corroded badly you might not get it even with the ultrsonic machine, but it might

The OP posted earlier the mechanic cleaned the carb twice and was obviously un-successful.

I read from that it's not corroded that bad or he wouldn't have cleaned AND RE-BUILT it.

It's simply still clogged and the mechanic gave up on the carb...

Guess its cheaper than paying the tech another couple of hours labor for unknown results...

At dealer labour rates, particularly in some states and over seas, it can be cheaper (and more certain) to buy a new carburetor than to keep fidding with an old one.
