So it occurred to me that I last checked the engine anodes in May of 2015 -

And at that time I only looked at them-

I had installed new ones when I did the exhaust stack in August 2014.

So here they are, after two years & 600 operating hours:



Did not look bad! but I flush the engine every time I use it - so, not surprising.

and I had new anodes on hand, so I swapped them in:



OK, here's where it gets interesting:

taking a closer look at the "used" anodes, there was an obvious difference





One has been much more "active than the others" !

That "more active" anode ALSO clearly came out of a different mold than the others

Now, I know that I have several times purchased "aftermarket" Martyr brand aluminum anodes.

The three "similar" anodes are clearly Martyr,

recognizable by the mold marks, the "dots" at the top:

The fourth, "more active" anode has no unique marks -

similar to the photo of the "Official Yamaha Part" on Boats.net:



So apparently, years ago, I bought one "Yamaha" anode from my local dealer

and IT was "more protective" than the "industry standard" "MIL-A-24779" Martyr brand aluminum anodes.

Very interesting.

Especially since an "aftermarket" anode can be had for ~$ 6.50

and the Official Yamaha part lists for $ 22.50

Wish you would stop messing with things. Now I have to go check mine. I changed the three I have about 3 years ago. Paid the Yamaha price.

Seems the Yamaha one worked better with more corrosion... Better that than the block...

I looked at a website - boatzincs.com. F225 and F150 both use the same anodes that Fairdeal replaced. They show one listed as aluminum and one as zinc. Wonder if anyone knows the material or blend Yamaha uses? I would rather have them decay a little faster and protect a little more...

Yamaha internal anodes, heads and water jackets, looked and felt like aluminum versus straight zinc. So a blend to cover all bases?

Don't know. I sent an email to ask. They are a couple bucks from Boats.net but would have a shipping cost I assume. Would be nice to get both at same time.

Nope. Boatzincs.com does not carry the grommets for these anodes.
