• ETHANOL VS. YAMAHA???

it seems to me that many outboard performance issues are now being attributed to ethanol and or or moisture created by it. just wondering what the general concensus is regarding ethanol in outboards (particularly yamahas) and what should be done to protect them from the hazards of it, if any. thanks in advance for your replies.

harry,
Your concern is justified - I feel the same way.
Yamaha just released a bulletin on this issue. Here is the link from another forum where I am a member:

http://www.maverickboats.com/perfbull/O2006-009.pdf

The bulletin recommends several steps to "contend" with the effects of ethanol in gasoline. Most late model Yammies will handle E10 (10% ethanol - 90% gasoline). Check your owner's manual.
The 10 micron filter that Yamaha recommends is the most significant step to prevent any problems.
If you have a fiberglass fuel tank, you could be in trouble since ethanol "attacks" some resins .
Good luck ,
