  • 98 S 175 TXRW routine to change fuel pumps

1998 175 saltwater txrw Carb engine ,4 years ago purchased ,carbs cleaned ,fuel pumps, thermostats ,water pump were changed ,living in the NE boat is used twice a week about 6 gallons per trip during the season .

Question is should I replace the fuel pumps I remember reading something about that a few years back changing them every few years they were about $50 each .

Use Valve Tec fuel ,Startron and Yamaha fuel treatment ,engine starts and runs great flushed after each time out .

Planning on replacing the water pump this winter wasn't sure about the fuel pumps and thermostats . Thanks

    I have 1995 txrt
2 years ago, when I got engine, pumps were working, original.
But I replaced them anyway for new - cheap insurance
Disassembled old one and inside they had not looked good.
It takes only 10 seconds or less to run engine without proper lubrication to be destroyed. Don't wait. Changer them.

I keep my empty lower unit every winter inside, and water pump housing lifted from impeller, and rubber protected from drying with inert petroleum jel.
Freezing temp not good for rubber impeller inside pump, replace it.
