  • F115TXRB 2003 Stator question

    Hello,

On my last outing i noticed Battery not charging. After returning home put battery on charge. When charge completed I load tested battery checked ok. Battery cables just replaced last year. Operated tilt up and down a few times and ran engine with volt meter directly on battery and attached a amp clamp to positive cable. Found no voltage change from original 12.8 volts.

I then checked the 30 amp fuse for regulator ok. Then check voltage at regulator connector red and black wires checked ok measured battery volts.

I then disconnected the connector i believe goes to the stator coil. I checked resistance in between all three legs.
    1 to 3 1056 ohms
    1 to 2 528 ohms
    3 to 2 528 ohms

Then i put volt meter on AC volts with plug disconnected and checked each leg one at a time to ground with engine cranking.
    pin 1 .45 volts
    pin 2 140 mili volts
    pin 3 .45 volts

Also checked resistance to ground one at a time and results all open none shorted to ground or negative.

After this i think one of the coils have opened and that one controls charging. The other two are for spark?

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Looks like you might be checking the wrong wires. Resistance between any two of the three lighting coil outputs is 0.24 ~ 0.36 ohms.

Then i put volt meter on AC volts with plug disconnected and checked each leg one at a time to ground with engine cranking.
    pin 1 .45 volts
    pin 2 140 mili volts
    pin 3 .45 volts

The output of the lighting coil is to be checked using a peak voltage adapter with the multimeter set on DC volts. Output should be 9.3 volts cranking, 37 volts at 1500 RPM and 90 volts at 3,500 RPM.

Also checked resistance to ground one at a time and results all open none shorted to ground or negative.

After this i think one of the coils have opened and that one controls charging. The other two are for spark? The lighting coil has a three phase output. All three leads are connected directly to the rectifier/regulator.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
I think you need to get yourself a copy of the applicable service manual, a peak voltage adapter or voltmeter that has this function embedded within, the appropriate test harness and follow the SM instructions.
