if refilling gearlube on a f60 when tilted up do you get the full amount of oil back in it?

NO -- manual says motor must be in down position and level

easy enough to check by filling when up and then check when in down position

Why not just fill it in the down position until oil comes out of the vent hole, put the vent plug back in, then replace the lower plug??....how simple it that?

Motor is on a boat that is in water and not possible to haul, I know how to change gearlube when in proper position, I've done that for 40 years, I've just never had to try this way. If not a proven and tried way I won't even consider it and wait until hauled, common sense will prevail.

Probably your best bet to just wait until you can pull the boat out of the water....not to mention dropping the drain plugs, screwdrivers and oil spilled into the water....If there was a suitable beach, landing or grounding area on your waterway maybe you could back the boat up so the motor would at least be out of the deep water?....just a thought...

Maybe next time you do a lower oil change when hauled onto land try it while tilted up, then lower down and recheck just to see. Then you will know for sure
