Anybody know the color code of the wire for a tach from a 70ETLH Yamaha OB? Maybe its called by a different name? Pulser coil? lighting coil?
I have tha manual to this thing, but it doesn't state 'Tachometer' by name...got a feeling the answer is right in front of me...bu can't see the forest from the trees! But, it IS saturday & college football is on!

    Pls advise. & Tks.

What kind of controls do you have?
Probably the green wire hanging loose coming out of the con*****er will be for the tach.
Should be with a red , black, and yellow wire

Green is the wire colour for the tachometer signal. It comes from the CDI. The computer. The brains of the motor.

The SM will generally say nothing about the tachometer.

being a 87 70 hp would not the signal be coming from the lighting coil instead of the CDI?

Ok, the matching com=ntrller for the OB has the G, Y & R wires coming out of it. The yellow is connected to a corresponding yellow; Green to a Grey wire which leads to the 'SIG' connection on the Tach; red is not connected to anything.
The issue @ hand is I do not believe I'm getting a proper reading from the motor like I did prior to its rebuild. yeah, new info.
All connections are appropriate to the pics I took & the manual.
From what device does the motor send the signal to the Tach?
          Again, tks for any help.

Yes, on that model the green wire for the tachometer comes directly from the lighting coil.

              Good catch yam99.

make sure the tach is set to the proper setting for your motor
