75TLRZ what part is this?

Hi All

New to boating and picked up a center console boat with a 75TLRZ motor and noticed this small hose with a fitting at the end that appears loose, but I don't see another loose end anywhere where it might join. See attached photo.

Does anyone know the purpose of this little hose and where it might join?

speedometer
is not used if you do not have one hooked up to it

Looks like your speedometer tube. This will attach to another tube/hose that run along with your wiring harness to a speedometer, if you have one. Will not hurt anything if you don't use it. If you do use it, you should blow though it to make sure it is clear. There is a tiny orifice at the front/bottom of your lower unit that the hose in the picture you posted is connected to.

Also, please verify your model # 75TLRZ, "Z" would be a 2001, there is no 2001 75HP motor listed on boats.net parts website 2001 Yamaha Outboard Parts

Maybe the boat does not have a water pressure driven speedometer. Could this be?

There is a speedometer gauge, but like a couple of the other gauges on this used '91 Princecraft center console boat, it isn't currently functional.

Cpostis: it is strange, but see attached pic that shows the model #. On the flip side it shows the date of manufacture as 09/00. And the cowling has Yamaha's graphic design of a big "75".

Where are the digits? They are as important as most everything else.

This may be a model that was not offered in the USA in 2001. The boats.net and the Yamaha US parts catalogs only depict models that we sold in the US for the US market. There are thousands of other Yam models in existence that don't show up in the US parts book.

I did. I noticed the serial number is missing.

Why? Don't know.

Without the serial number the engine ID is all but meaningless.

Sorry, I did not even notice the serial missing, just saw the model being there and motors are made before the model year

Look on the back of the speedo gauge. If there is no tube attached to the nipple, problem solved.

If there is a tube...

-- Blow into it and see if air comes out the pitot hole on the lower unit. Or, is there a separate pitot attached to the transom? Check for obstruction if you can't blow through.

-- Look for another, similar style, tube coming through the transom

-- If no other tube, and you can blow through it, follow the tube and find where it's been cut/has a hole. It may have been cut within the vicinity of that existing tube.

-- Remove the plug and blow through - see if air comes out the pitot.

HOWEVER... that existing tube and plug "looks" factory/original. Meaning, whomever installed that engine never hooked up the speedo. In which case, you can simply run a tube from that connection to the speed and you'll have a functioning speedo... if the lower unit pitot hole isn't plugged, that is... which is likely, but also usually easily unplugged.
