  • Throttle cam control link length

Hi All, 1998 S200TXRW. Took the carbs off to clean. Now going thru sync and link. My Yamaha service manual (LIT-18616-01-87) indicates throttle cam control link length should be set to 52.5mm. The control link will not physically get to 52.5mm, shortest you can screw in link is 55.70mm. I measured the control link prior to making any adjustments and it was set at 61mm so my question is what is the correct length. Thanks in advance.

    In the manual, it states:

"Before adjusting the carburetor pickup timing, be sure to adjust the ignition timing, carburetor synchronization, and engine idling speed."

Are you performing the steps in order? This may be why you cannot reach the 52.5mm spec?

Yes I did. The cam control link consist of a link (part #32), a nut (part #33), and joint (part #34) http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Outboard/1998/S200TXRW/CONTROL/parts.html ugh, link does not post to boats.net parts page.

Part #34, the joint can be threaded in or out. Figure A in service manual shows where to make measurement.
If I were to disconnect the cam link from the magneto control lever and the cam and lay on a bench I would be unable to get to 52.5mm. Manual is wrong or different (wrong) cam control link was installed previous to my ownership which has been 8 yrs and that seems unlikely.

Ah ha, there are two different parts listed for # 32. First 682-41237-50-00 JOINT,LINK , second 26G5-41211-01-00 LINK,ACCEL. They are different in lengths. Look at the detail pics with the ruler for size comparison on each. If you have the longer one, it probably is not correct and you need the shorter one.
        So, looks like the 682-41237-50-00 JOINT,LINK is for L200 S/W and yours s/b 26G5-41211-01-00 LINK,ACCEL?

        682-41237-50-00 YAMAHA JOINT,LINK 2

        6G5-41211-01-00 YAMAHA LINK,ACCEL.

Looking further, # 35, CAM, ACCEL has two different part #'s as well. Little more investigation needed?

Yep, the one I have is the long one. Thanks Chuck! Never would have found that. I'll look into it and post back.

I'd check the # 35 CAM, Accel as well.
