  • Yamaha 225 2 stroke starting and running problems

I have 2 stroke 225, been stored for some years, carbs have been stripped cleaned and new repair kits installed, new fuel and fuel lines installed, fuel pumps cleaned. engine starts then stalls as soon as you try to give throttle, if I disconnect the yellow wire at the bottom of the ECU it starts and will rev but still rough running. Yamaha technician says ECU?. Any advice guys? Thanks

SM indicates it to be a 2.594 cc motor. 158.3 ci.

Other Yam data indicates it to be a 2.596 cc motor. 158.4 ci.

              Takes ur pick.

can you post some good pictures of the engine?

mostly the port side carb area.

RodBolt, Ok I have been thinking it might be stuck reeds!! I didn't check them yet and I had the engine running with or without cdi connected. but very rough running, then overheat warning buzzer came on. My thoughts were always fuel starvation through the carbs. I can only check it next weekend. Do you have experience of this before? does it sound like a possibility?

that is the standard SMART 2.6L Yamaha .
the crank position sensor must be clean or it wont send the correct signal.
                            leave the reeds alone.

                            fix the fuel system.
                            fix the cooling system.
