115 shut down problem

my 2005 yamaha 115 does not shut down when ignition is turned off or man overboard switch activated. Replaced switch unit, main relay.
Grounding white wire at switch does not kill engine'

Is this a two stroke 115 model or is it an F115? Big difference.

By your use of the term "main relay" this leads me to believe that it might be an F115 four stroke. Why was the main relay replaced? The main relay has nothing to do with stopping the motor when the kill switch is activated.

The engine is made to stop when a white wire at the key switch/kill switch is grounded. If the key switch/kill switch are new then they are believed to be operative and that there is a wiring issue preventing the ECU from being grounded to stop the motor.

Disconnect the ten pin coupler at the front of the motor. It connects to the wire harness that runs to the boat and up to the key switch. You have to rotate a locking collar and then the two connectors will separate from each other. Pull them apart.

Inspect the ten pin coupler terminals for the signs of any corrosion or build up that would make for a poor electrical connection. This would prevent the ECU from being grounded when the key is turned off or the lanyard is pulled.

With the key switch in the OFF position, or the kill switch lanyard pulled, check the terminal in the boat side receptacle that connects to the white wire in the harness. The wire should have continuity (nil resistance) to the terminal that connects to the black wire in the harness.

With your multi-meter connected between the white wire terminal and the black wire terminal flex the harness a bit and see if the multi-meter remains steady or does it jump around a bit? That might indicate a broken or intermittent wire within the harness.

Check the terminal connected to the black wire in the engine side harness connector to ensure that it is connected to a ground source.

Do the tests and then come back here with the results.

Wont cut off

I test both plugs and have no continuity. I also move the wire check the plugs by the key switch.
