  • yamaha 3.0 liter I.O.

can any one help me to find or cross reference so I can locate a carburetor rebuild kit. This engine I was told by Yamaha is made by GM . I would think that a match could be made with another application. Thanks for any help

I would remove the carburetor and take it to a good automotive parts store with some old folks behind the counter (Napa) or to a long time carburetor rebuild/repair shop. Or maybe the parts counter of a long time GM dealer. Hopefully someone there can identify the carburetor by part number or brand/model. From there you might be able to get to the part number for a rebuild kit.

Another thought is to buy a new carburetor and install/adapt it to your motor. This is done all of the time in the automotive world.

Yamaha stern drive stuff is well in the past now. Good luck.

look at the side of the fuel bowl on the stbd front corner.
you will see the Rochester numbers.

If you post your year, model #, etc, the kit is easily found here:

I would be amazed if that Yamaha kit part number was still in the Yamaha system.
Yamaha got out of the US market sterndrive back about 1995.
however Rochester built the carb and put their numbers on it.

Here's a link to help identify your carb. Maybe you want to contact them?

It can be confusing. The Yamaha boat company, while owned by the same parent company, is not part of the Yamaha marine group. The marine group is responsible for Yamaha outboard motors and once upon a time stern drive engines. The boat company uses mostly, if not all, jet drives.

If one goes to the Yamaha marine group home page and looks under the parts lookup function, there is a selection for stern drives. One can find part numbers for parts used on the L4, V6 and V8 models but good luck finding one of those parts. What is strange is that they may be stocked in Japan but Yamaha USA is no longer bringing them into the USA.

Would be nice if the OP stated precisely what model motor that he has.

We won't know unless the year, model, etc is posted.

If its a regular old Quadrajet 4 bbl(or 2 bbl), as I re-call, there was either a tag on the carb, or stamped in the body.

With that a kit can be found almost anywhere and a bunch cheaper than one with Yamaha stamped on the box...

Very simple carbs', jets in the bottom, accelerator fuel pump, darn near bullet proof...

                  Probably a Rochester 2BBL..
Look at this link and see if it looks like yours.

Get the #'s on the body (Like a few of us have said), and order your kit. If you don't feel confident, have a reputable shop (Like the one I sent in a previous post) rebuild for you.

most folks have never seen a Yamaha sterndrive.

the Yamaha stern drive 3.0 used a basic simple 2bbl Rochester and carb kits are avalible from most any auto parts store.
I told you where the carb ID numbers are.

unlike the old OMC 153 CID that used two carter 1bbl carbs .
lucky for me they were the same carbs that my Studebaker used .
