Lean out the fuel/oil mix enough and you won't be having an excessive smoking issue. The motor will be so quiet. It won't vibrate. It will be so smooth.

Agreed, it'll be an expensive anchor...

I'm talking about air/fuel not oil, but thanks ANYWAY!!

only adjustments you have would be for the idle(pilot) screws unless you change jets

I think everyone (at least I did) assumes its BLUE, excess OIL SMOKE.

            Clarify please:

            Is it BLUE SMOKE-OIL or

is it BLACK SMOKE (over rich fuel air mixture)
            ?

Engines generally don't run RICHER over time (unless a float, float needle/seat fail).

So i did a full service today and found that the pilot screws were 2 1/4 turns out, causing it to run rich. Unfortunately, I need a new impeller. I reset the pilot screw to 1 1/2 turns. I pumped the tank and added 50:1 mix with a touch of seafoam. No leaks in the fuel system. Started up first crank and wasn't pissing, so I'm going to swap out the impeller. Hopefully they have one here in town tomorrow

You may want to buy the entire kit to 100% performance. Its not much more.

Please post back how it goes..

I am curious how the screws got un-screwed so far, especially since it wasn't an issue before... Anyone else dinking with the engine?

Thanks you. I purchased and intalled the whole kit. I'm just getting the lower unit buttoned up and we will see how it goes. I put it back together the 1st time with the shift shaft in forward, so I fixed that.

I am the third owner of this boat and I never checked the pilot screws last season after I bought it. The guy who had it before me looked like a tinkerer, so who knows. There were quite a few hidden gems all over the boat that were "jerry" rigged.

I got everything buttoned up after the water pump kit install and destroyed the new impeller immediately thereafter. I used a pair of muffs that were not mine and they did not provide enough water to the impeller. I should have known better. I'm now waiting on a second kit with a new housing since that got jacked up too. I figured out that if you don't have the gear shift shaft in neutral when you install the lower unit, you end up with no reverse. Lol

Oh boy... Expensive (not too bad) lesson learned...

Now you know the short cuts and can knock that out pretty quick..

That's the positive outlook I'm trying to maintain. I just want to get on the water. The salmon are calling my name
