Just changed the oil and gear lube on my 50 horse four stroke yamaha and there was just a little bit of metal shavings on the magnet on the lower case. How much is normal. I assume the break in period should have just a little debris.

Yeah, there should be just a small amount of fine metal shavings on the plug magnet during break-in. Is the motor shifting gears ok? Do you hear any excessive grinding when you go from neutral to forward or reverse? Jumping out of gear?
Check it again in another ten hours - if there is more or if the shavings are larger, take it to the dealer for warranty work.

Ken, Every thing works great. It was a little shy of gear oil when I drained it. It looked like it was about 7oz short.Comment
