  • Yamaha 2001 150 HPDI electrical problem

My faithfull 2001 150 hp 2 stroke HPDI (z150p)outboard suddenly stopped working.
When i got home i discovered that the fuel hose had fallen off just inside the engine.
Next day i called a mechanic to repair the broken fuel line. The morning he came everything electrical was working perfectly. He disconnected a lot of cables to work on the fuel line.
After putting everything back we tried to fire the engine up again.
    The following problems ocurred:
When connecting the battery the engine started to burn one of the fuses. The mechanic came back the day after and started to work on the engine again, cleaning all connections.
Now all instruments come to live when the battery is connected even when key is in off.
When turning the ignition key the trim down starts - and starterengine is not activated.
    The trim buttens work normally.

The mechanic says that the fuel could affect the electrical wirering (I pumped 2 times before i realised thet the fuel line was broken), but the ignition was working normally when he started working on the engine.

Has anyone got an idea what could be wrong ?

    Kind regards
    Han Johnson

What happens when you press the trim switch in the pan up and down?
To me it sounds like the wiring has been done incorrectly.
Is it possible to get some photos?

sometimes, it is what it is.

I work behind some of the local mobile so called techs all the time.

some should have their tool box's confiscated.

The fuse that blow is the top yellow 20 amp. I thind it is for power trim..

But after cleaning the connectors the mechanic got the power trim working.
So the problem now is hat ignition is on as soon as i connect the battery. And when i turn the egnition key the engine starts to trim down. No reaction from the starter.
The buttons for trim both works as they should.

When the mecanic dissasembled the cables he used small pliers and said that he felt he almost broke it. Is was wondering if he made a snortcircuit by doing that.

                  So far - no soloution

I just got my boat back. The bill was 522 USD.
                  Status:
The mechanic did not find the error.
Problem: When I connect the battery the instruments power up like if I turned the ignition key.
When I turn the ignition key the motor trims down.
I measured 2.6 Ohms on 10 pin connector with key removed. See image 26ohm.

I still suspect that the problem was created by disassembly and assembly of cables when the mechanic replaced the fuel line. Are these cables connected correct? Image CabelingAfterMec

                  Is the wirering correct?
I tried to test starter engine by activating it with a short cable. It is OK. See image KablerIBoks

The ignition has been left on for many hours - can this cause problems?

why did you pay him if he did not fix it?

need to find wire diagram for your motor and start tracing wires and circuits,

not sure about the correct wire colors, but
see if yellow key on power wire coming from key switch is shorted to red hot wire

find out where the brown wire for start from key goes.
see it that is crossed up with the T&T wires some place

I don't have any input to your issue but had to post,
he friggin charged you to screw up your engine??

                      $500 for a fuel line??

The electric worked fine before he touched it. Fuel splashed on the
wires will not affect it (unless wet and catches fire). His answer is BS and once you get it fixed, send him the bill.

Wherever, whatever he touched, that area needs to be gone over. He didn't put something back correctly..
