  • Alarm problem

I have a 2000 Yamaha 70 tlry that is sounding the alarm soon as I turn the key. Had friend check temp sensor and was good so figured a bad oil level sensor and replaced it. Alarm still sounds so as a turn the switch. Is it possible that issue may be related to the switch

are you turning the key switch to just the on position or to start when the buzzer sounds?

Both, alarm goes off soon as I turn key to on position and continues to sound after engine starts up.

I guess this is a 2 stroke motor as you said oil level.

over heat, oil level, and some motors have water in fuel cup, and low voltage that will set an alarm.
do you have gauges that will show what is bringing in the alarm?

kill switch pulled should only sound when key is in start position.
and water in fuel sounded only in neutral.

over heat wire grounded when it should not be could cause this even if the over heat switch is OK the wire maybe a problem

With kill switch pull alarm still goes off in on position. The only thing I found to make alarm go off is to disconnect a small black cylinder that says Stanley DE64. I can't find this part on any parts diagram. It has 3 wires going to it 1 pink from heat sensor , 1 pink +1 gray from oil level sensor. If I unplug any while alarm is going off it will stop.i think it some kid next of diode or capacitor but lol ke I said cant find on any diagram or parts list

The reason I ask about start switch is I saw a post here about guy having same prob so he bought a wiring harness and switch. He installed switch first and alarm went off and never used harness.

With the kill switch pulled does the engine start? If so it shouldn't. Which indicates either the wiring or switch of lanyard is bad. Hence the continuous alarm because the circuit isn't closing.

where is this small black cylinder located?
a picture of it may help someone figure out what it is.

Have you tried disconnecting the pink wire at the over temp switch on head?

The black cylinder is located on right side ,it is not attached to anything. I'll try to get a pic today and send. Also if I unplug pink on temp sensor on head alarm still sounds

                      which right side?
looking from the front or back?

if you would use port and starboard usually it makes clear what side of motor.
after all it is a boat motor

It's starboard CAPTAIN, sorry for the confusion but when ordering parts for any motor I've never been asked is it port or starboard. As holder of 1600 ton master I can't remember engine parts as pot ot starboard. Funny but never fails when u join a new chat u always run into an A. H. O. L. E

is that left or right while standing on the dock looking at the moon ?????

you wont belive how many times I have had work orders with the WRONG motor listed as dead on a twin engine rig.

simply cause left and right are objective while port and stbd are not.

do you have the correct Yamaha tach???

dpo you have the twin connector trim/oil harness that runs from the motor to the tach ??

Attached is wiring diagram for 70hp. I think someone has "rigged" this wiring. I do not see "small black cylinder" as you describe it in this diagram. Could that be a "power trim/tilt relay" that someone has put in the wrong place? Follow the wiring to a "T", correct as necessary, and see if that solves your problem.

now you have hurt my feelings
                              where are the pics?
                              And answer Rodbolt17's question.
he is one that has a good chance of identifying what that small black cylinder thing is.

I thought that some pistons and other parts were different on which side on V block motors and listed them in diagrams as port and starboard, but I may be way off base
