Air silencer question

Am I missing something from my air silencer? This is a generic f150 air silencer picture, but is there supposed to be a tube of sort over the nipple in the upper right corner? I just did a VST cleaning job and filter change and as I'm putting it back together I notice this nipple. I'm wondering if I dropped it and one of my 3 thief hounds picked it up.

over the time that the F150 has been about the design of the VST venting changed.
not ALL F150 motors used that nipple.
