  • LCD multifunction speedometer/fuel gauge

I have a 2000 F115TXRY outboard with the round LCD tach and speed/fuel gauges. Both gauges are now faded and unreadable. I purchased good used speed/fuel gauge. When I removed my dash panel to remove the old gauge, I discovered that the one I purchased has an additional black pigtail with 5 or 6 pin female connector that my existing gauge does not have. I can see the other wires match up to the existing gauge, but I don't know what the extra pigtail is for or if it will work without it being connected if the other wires are connected. I would appreciate any help!

Can you post a photo showing the front and back of both gauges?

It could be a newer gauge with fuel management capabilities. Have you tried to see if it works with your harness yet? I installed a new gauge on older outboard, it had extra wires that were not needed for my application.

I installed the gauge this past weekend. Every wire matched up, unplugged the old plugged in the new. EXCEPT for that extra pigtail. Was told by a local mechanic that pigtail was indeed for fuel management, and was not needed. However, the gauge did not power up after installation. Rechecked all connections and all were solidly inserted into harness.... What is my next step?

do what Bosco said so he can give some advice

key on power should be a yellow wire, make sure you are getting power to the gauge + and -

maybe you bought a non working gauge

I will take photos as soon as I get off work and can get to boat.... I just realized that I didn't check the dip switches on the back of the gauge when I installed. If those are not correct, would that prevent it from powering up? I will also check power to yellow wire with switch in "on" position..

            thanks,

            Mike

The code has been broken. OP has a speedometer. To which is attached the optional lead that provides speed information to a fuel management meter. His original speedometer apparently did not have the optional lead installed.
