Hi, I have a Yamaha 150 VMAX that seized up on me yesterday after a day on the lake. It was running fine all day and then all of the sudden it made clunking sounds and was done. It has smoked more than usual at start up and and idle since I've owned it but the smoke went away once I got moving so I figured it was just getting too much oil at idle.
It won't turn over at all at this point so i'm fearing the worst. I talked to one mechanic who said that the #1 cylinder on these motors had a design flaw that was later fixed by Yamaha so he recommended getting a new power head from Yamaha instead of having this one rebuilt. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of that.
I'm going to have someone look at it sometime this week to give me a better idea of what I need to do but it doesn't look good.
