      What might be missing here it matters not what the oil level is when the engine is stationary but what is required when engine is running plus a reserve amount. Oil stays in circulation when the engine is running, lots of it. The higher the viscosity the more sticks around.
      So the question might not be a change in the oil reservoir holding capacity, but change in pooling capacity elsewhere in the engine.
      Unless someone can confirm a change in engine design (include position of dipstick marks), I believe the difference is purely arbitrary.

        Try both sticks in the same engine to see if they read the same. Why,.... why not.
