I removed the lower casing on my T9.9 and now it won't snift into reverse. The linkage is moving up and down but it's not finding reverse. What did I miss when I replaced the lower casing?
The motor should have been shifted into reverse before removing the lower unit. Otherwise, it is difficult to get access to the jam nut and coupling nut.
The lower unit of course should not be shifted when it is off of the motor.
I suspect that the lower unit shift mechanism is now out of phase with the shift mechanism on the lower unit.
Press down on the shift rod to put the lower unit into reverse gear. Might help to turn the drive shaft counter clock wise (viewed from above) while pushing down on the rod. Rotate the drive shaft clock wise and verify that the propeller turns counter clockwise (view from behind).
Put the shift handle on the motor in reverse gear.
Reinstall the lower unit. Turn the coupling nut so that it engages both rods equally. Screw the jam nut onto the coupling nut.
