Shift/ throttle cable problem

After installing Yamaha 50hp engine shift lever hits against throttle lever when trying to shift, what might cause this?

Might need a picture of your control box, not exactly sure what you have, or how it can happen.

bent linkage maybe.
is this on the motor or on the controls?

My friend has a yamaha (I think) OB engine, that now, doesn't run right. Its bluish /gray..
