My 2000 Yamaha 2 stroke 130 HP would sputter then stall out. When I pumped the fuel line ball I noticed fuel leaking from under the cowling. When I removed the cowling I noticed the small plastic filter that screws into where the fuel line connects was loose causing air to come out when I pumped the ball. I tightened this filter with my fingers. Will this fix the problem or is there another reason my engine was stalling? Thanks!!

I would think so, yah. Because you've got a leaking fuel filter, the fuel pump is sucking air through the leak. Therefore the fuel pump isn't pumping fuel to your carbs, it's pumping air. No fuel or not enough fuel in the carb, no fuel in the chamber. No fuel in the chanber, no combustion. No combustion...
Remove the 2 hoses from the fuel filters canister. Remove the bolt securing the canister. Dump the fuel. Inspect the canister for cracks. Inspect the canisters threads and the cap threads. Make sure none are broke off. If so, replace. If not, screw cap back on tight and reinstall. Pump primer bulb. Inspect for leaks.Jason

I screwed on the cap hand tight, pumped the ball, the ball got hard, and no gas leaked out. Before when the cap was loose, the ball wouldn't harden, gas leaked out of the top, and you heard air coming out. Does it appear the problem is fixed? Thanks very much for the assistance on this forum.
