  • 115hp 2 stroke water pressure regulator

1987 115hp What a mess, It was overheating I think, Green light on and buzzer sounding, first I broke one of the bolts on the pcv, so I had to take the cover off, broke three more bolts none of them easy to reach. First question , the pcv was stuck shut, what will this cause? second what can be put on the bolts to help with corrosion. Thanks

At least for the stuck bolts, put some good penetrating oil on it(I like PB Blaster) , do that a couple of times.

Gently smack the bolt some to help loosen the corrosion.

Putting some heat, from say a heat gun around the block where the bolt is (making sure you don't melt any plastic/rubber etc). You can spray while its hot and soaks in too.

While its still hot, put a wrench on it. If it doesn't move, DON'T FORCE IT or you'll have another broken bolt.. Repeat...

ANY BOLT that is that stubborn, especially the smaller ones, leaning on it hard, you can about guarantee to break the head off...

For the ones already broke off, if you can't get a vice grip on it, you may bring it to a machine shop. They have specialty tools that'll remove the broken bolts flat quick.

      overheating

Thanks I did all of those things and after three days of blaster I did get all of them off, could anybody tell me what the pressure regulator valve being closed all the time will cause. I'm looking for the overheating cause. Thanks

I learned a trick from a yamaha mechanic called heat cycling using automatic transmission fluid. Because ATF is non flamable and more viscous comapred to PB blaster its more effective. Pour some over the corroded bolt, heat, then allow to cool, then try getting bolt off. Repeat. It's worked every time for me.

Just remember you don't want to overheat the bolt weakening its hardening. Hard to do in an aluminium block, but there are people out there that are capable of anything when the primal frustration gets out of control.

All that I have read about is if the PRV sticks open it will dump too much water at low RPM to keep the block full so the top cylinders overheat.
I do not think being stuck closed would cause an overheat.

Maybe Rod or Bosco can give us some incite to what could happen if stuck closed

Where is the PRV on a F150TXRD 2004 model?

Thanks for the info. So when the PRV opens, water is directed out the back of lower unit, out of the rectangular hole? Assuming when on plane, running down channel etc. Of course I never see it as I am driving
