  • When to replace coils

    Hey all.
I have a 1997 80 horsepower C80TLRV outboard motor that is running very well. I am getting ready for the fishing season and am wondering whether or not I should replace the coils on the motor just as a preventive measure. The coils presently on the motor are the factory OEM coils that were on the motor when purchased in 1996.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Coils are not maintenance items, replace only when faulty.

And Yamaha coils are regarded as reliable.
But I suppose if one feels one needs a lot of spare parts, in case something goes, keeping a spare won't hurt (I had a faulty coil once, it would have been handy to have a spare coil to diagnose the problem at the time).
