Well I went fishing today and just got home and received word that my friend had problems starting the motor. Said that binnacle trim buttons works the motor up/down and he hears the fuel pump cycle. But motor doesn't crank when the key is turned to start. He bought new batteries and both register 12.8V.
What test should he perform to get the starter to crank?
The other thing he encountered was when he plugged the command wire connector hub 6Y82521-21-00 to the binnacle and the other end to the round tach, the tach has a constant 12V that stayed on with or without the key being in the “on” position.
the bigger question is does he have the correct round tach.
does he have the correct CL or CLP connections made?
is that control box original to that engines ECU?
I believe these newer motors have theft protection in them that makes it impossible or near that to hook up a motor that was set up on a different set of controls.
I think that was what Rod was refering to, but I may be wrong.
not only is something wired wrong you MUST do a control box reset.
once the engine ECU and a control box ECU are married they can only be divorced with YDS in the form of a control box reset.
Just an update about the reset. My friend brought his boat to a shop that did the reset. Motor is up and running and my friend called and invited me to go fishing this Saturday. Anxious to see what that monster will do in the SF Bay.
