  • Help new t belt super tight 03 f225

    Hey Guys ,
I have been trying to install new T-Belt & tensioner.I have done this procedure before on other motors .
Old belt had some play and engine had 1k hours on motor . Belt & tensioner came off with ease went to install new Belt & tensioner the new belt is tight had to pry it over cam gears with screw drivers to get it on . Pulled pin on tensioner had to turn motor over by hand few times then tensioner clicked into place . The belt is very very tight ? I even tried to install the old belt same issue so tight could not get over cam gears .
I have looked an shop manual so many times went over anything that could have possibly be different in the geometry just can't see anything but something is different ?
Went and spoke to Yamaha Mech and he just said don't know you should have left it alone belts can go 2k hours ?
The belt is on motor runs but just dont feel godd about it . ..

Well, the nice thing is, your engine is "non-interference" -

the pistons have a recess & won't collide with the valves if the belt goes south

possibly why your mech told you to leave it alone...

I changed the belt on my '05 F225 a few months ago -

(although I could probably have passed off the original I removed as "new")

It was stressful for me, also

first, "removing the tension" was a cruel joke -

I knew i needed to work slowly so as not damage the internals of the tensioner -
but the amount of movement I obtained with the "5 mm pin" hardly helped

I don't recall how easily the old one came off,

but it was a struggle to work the new one on.

The process gave me some pause, and the SM made it worse:

First, the instruction for the tensioner:

wtf? the tensioner IS "pushing" against the belt, rotating it clockwise backs it off

well, whatever, OK, putting the belt on:

"turn the belt" ? do they mean turn the drive sprocket so everything moves?

    then that's followed by:

Ah - so now I am warned NOT to turn counterclockwise !

But only at this last step?

It was ok to turn it counterclockwise in step 10 ?

well, after studying that all first,

I didn't take the chance of "turning counterclockwise" at any point...

    it all ended OK

      Well, there you go again.

Trying to make sense of a Yamaha service manual.
