  • breaking bolts

Seeing that this is part of the **** when working on old motors, what are the preferred methods of repair ? seems most of these bolts take a 10mm socket, but not sure what thread that is.

    usually 6 mm, M6 x 1,0 I think

    a torch and penetrating oil

    Blaster, Kroil

many people swear by home-brew: ATF & acetone

best method is heating BEFORE breaking.
however once broken first choice is drilling and retapping to the original size.
failing that the second choice is drilling and heli-coiling back to the correct size.

most penetrating oils are worthless as they are designed chemically for Iron oxide not Aluminium oxide.
fluid film works fair and doesn't flame up when reapplying heat.
      stinks but doesn't flash .
