This had been a topic posted many times before. Why does it need to be replaced? Consensus was these belts last thousands of hours.....Rodbolt (Master Tech on this forum) stated he has only seen failures related to incorrect installation or crank bearing failures. Lets see who else chimes in?
On a 13/14 year old motor it is well past the time to replace the cam shaft drive belt. As a preventative measure.
Remove the engine cover.
Remove the shroud covering the flywheel.
Remove the flywheel nut.
Remove the flywheel.
Remove the base, the pulser coil and the stator.
Rotate the crank shaft until the alignment marks of the crank shaft and the cam shaft are in the proper positions.
Remove the belt first from the driven gear and then from the drive gear.
Install the drive belt.
Rotate the crank shaft two turns and verify the marks are still in the proper alignment.
Reinstall the other stuff that was removed.
