150 VMAX Tachometer readings???

I recently installed a new tach/speedo for my 2000 150Vmax. When I run it now, the idle rpm seems correct. However when under way, its readings go all the way up to 10,000rpm when at WOT. Don't think its accurate or supposed to be reading this. What would cause this? The speedo seems to be working fine.

Any idea what the sequence is? There are 3 switches in the back of the tach.

What brand tach, any instructions, any markings on the back by the switch?

If no markings, call the manufacturer and ask

3 switchs, that would dipically be the 6y5 Yamaha digital.

out of the box the switchs are set for 4 stroke,2 wire trim and 12 pole alt.

yours needs to be set for 2 stroke, without a year I cant tell you about the trim, and 12 pole alt.

do a forum search or wait for boscoe.
I don't have the information on the switchs here at the house.

Year is a 2000 150Vmax. I believe its TLRY model. It is a Yamaha OEM gauge. 6Y5-835OT-83-00

reset your switchs, out of the box its set for 4 stroke .

on your trim switch setting.
simply follow the trim sender wire to the connector.
its either going to be a pink and black two wire connector OR a pink,black and orange three wire connector.

A 2000 150 model year motor uses a three wire trim sender. And a 12 pole generator. Obviously a two stroke model.
