    Re: F90TLR, 2006

I changed the T/T pump on my motor. In the process I had to heat the upper ram pin to remove it. During that process I inadvertently burned the pitot tube for the boat speed.

Now I want to connect the speed GPS. I looked in the OM and the Command Link manuals and don't see anything about the connection.

I have the square Command Link.

The dealer says there's some wires that I need to connect but I need the model # of the GPS unit. I don't know where the GPS unit is located.

Any ideas on how I start this adventure?

Are you saying that you have a multi-function chart plotter with GPS capability in the boat but you don't know where it is? I am missing something.

If you have a GPS in the boat what is the brand and model?

On my command link I can choose water speed or GPS. I want to hook up the GPS and don't know how to approach.

What brand and model of GPS do you have?

On my Garmin GPS, the harness contains a bunch of extra wires besides + and -.

I do have it connected to my Marine radio for emergency purposes (IE, push a button on the radio, the GPS sends out the exact location to the CG).

Is that the wires your looking for (that should be in the owners manual for the GPS) or for the wires on the CL to hook up to??

BTW, I have replaced the Pitot hose/tube that runs vertically thru the engine for the water speed (which IS PRETTY accurate) from the top to the lower, mid section extension. I prefer having BOTH VISIBLE as I'm underway, just a thought..

I thought that the Command Link (CLink) comes with a GPS unit and all I have to do is connect up some wires and away I go.

After reading these posts I think that an external device (chart plotter) has to have the NMEA interface and that supplies the GPS data to the CLink. So the GPS unit is something external that I have to supply.

My Lowrance elite-4 HDI does have the NMEA interface.

Now the q might be what do I need to know on the CLink side to connect my elit4 to the CLink? Basically where do I go to find the pinout for the CLink connections?

That info should be in your manual for the GPS unit. If I remember correctly, the green wire is (usually?) for the VHF - but I'm not sure about speed.

FYI, you can probably fix your pitot tube (the one you burnt) for about $3.

DG01...I like the $3 idea and will probably go that route.

When I replaced my hose, I had the LU off (25" shaft with extension) and it was somewhat a PIA just sneaking it up there. Your model may be slightly different routing, but its definitely do-able, MUCH cheaper and easier.

To my knowledge the CL doesn't have GPS, you need a GPS or other unit to send the signal to the CL...

I'm not sure you could hook up a pressure hose/speedometer to the CL. If so, I wrote up/designed this which works very well and keeps the pressure speedometer working correctly and NOT clogging up:

I have the round gauges, not the CL:
