    What specific model motor have yee?

    I think you have an electro-mechanical choke confused with a Primestart device. But not to worry. You are not the first. In a number of Yamaha's the toggle switch, or the press-to-choke- function on some Yamaha key switches, does absolutely nothing.

    Some think their motor starts better using the switches. If you are one of these, keep using it.

      Yep if you do not hear the click when hitting the switch it is not doing anything
