  • Water Separating Filter?

Have just acquired my first Yamaha - 2003 Vmax V150TLRC 2 cycle - on a Skeeter SL 190. Runs well. But does not have a filter between the tank and engine. Every previous boat I have rigged/owned (with Mercs) has had a water separating fuel filter, with a spin-on cartridge. I am thinking I should add one.

    Thoughts?

Why not? Seems kind of obvious that having one is better than living in hope.

seeing how it has lived 21 years without one, it should be OK as long as you do not dump water and trash into the tank

Having/not having a spin-on is NOT Yamah's fault. That is up to a boat manufacturer to install/not install.

You have a water-separating filer already on the engine, right? Can't hurt to add a spin-on - but it also depends on where you boat. Inland and trailer... much less of a concern.

once you figure out how water will gets into YOUR BOAT gas tank, you know what to do to prevent it.
is it a gas tank cap seal? is it a fuel sender? it is a vent line? is it a hole in a gas tank due to bad grounding? is it marina gas station? if no water separator installed, you problem become obvious almost immediately, looking in a fuel filter plastic cap mounted on engine, prompt you to take action. You have TWO visual inspection points to check for water intrusion into motor: oil tank cap and gas filter cap. and you run a check before every outing removing top cowling for such inspection . Don't you?

            2003? Vmax V150TLRC is 2004. C is 2004, in 2003 it will be V150TLRB. am I missing something here?
