Fuel line size from fuel tank to Yamaha F115

When I replaced my fuel/water separator the fittings on it were 5/16 from filter to the squeeze bulb primer. Is that the correct size or did someone put in something smaller before me? The intake to the fuel filter is 3/8" so it was a bit of a puzzle. Anyone have experience on this?
