  • Yamaha 2009 F150TXR Starter relay

Been having some issue with the boat starting. The starter will engage the flywheel but won't spin to start it. I have replaced the battery with a new one (even though the old one tested good), replaced the starter and still have the same problem. I am guessing it is the ignition or the starter relay...which is where my question comes in. On this make and model is the starter relay the same part as the trim/tilt relay? What could I be missing? I can't seem to find a starter relay on this engine...I see it on older ones but not the 2009 F150TXR. Thanks in advance for the help.

There is the starting motor with a Bendix drive.

There is a solenoid attached to the starting motor has contacts that when closed apply battery power to the starter motor.

There is a starter relay which applies battery power to the solenoid control circuit so that the solenoid can do its job.

Have you tried using a set of battery jumper cables directly to the starting motor so as to bypass the rest of the system, to help understand where the problem may be?

that includes both the positive and negative directly from the battery itself
