Hello all, I have a 2001 150 VTRLZ. I have a constant alarm coming from the key switch. The only way I can get it to stop is disconnecting the 4 way plug on the starboard side of the motor. I followed the wire and it goes to the trim sensor. I presume there is an issue with the trim sensor. I do not use the a trim gauge so if I were to leave it disconnected is that going to interfere with the remote oil tank or any other necessary functions?

I'm not sure why the alarm at the key is going off then. Wasn't there a period of time when the alarm was tied into the trim sensor? Something about tilting the engine too high when trailering would cause oil to leak out of the tank? When I unplug this plug connector on the starboard side of the motor the alarm stops buzzing.

That may be what I am thinking about. All I am asking is, if I have disconnected this plug and the alram stops, will that disable anything else?? I'm trying to track down why this the alarm is going off anytime I turn the key to the on position. Both oil tanks are at proper levels, the motor is cold and not running so I know its not overheating. I tried to look over the wiring diagram and it is a little vague. I am starting to think that this ties into a Yamaha tach with a trim gauge but I don't run that tach nor do I have a trim gauge. What is concerning me is that there is a pink wire at the plug and I equate that with either overheating or low oil. I'm concerned that even though it stops the alarm, I want to make sure I'm not disabling the oil level sensor or possibly the temp sensors by disconnecting it.

Grey wire was hooked up to another grey wire with black stripe (ground) via bullet connector. The alarm goes off as soon as key is turned on. The only way it goes off is if I unplug the 4 way connector that connects pink/black/orange wires (trim sensor) to green and green with red stripe. When it is unplugged the alarm stops.

They are in the 4 way plug that goes to the trim sensor. I dont know how the plug configuration is but I can look when I get home. The trim sensor male plug has a pink, a black and an orange. The female side of the plug it goes into has a green and a green with a red stripe. I dont know what wire is going to which yet, I will know in a couple of hours though. The plug can only go in one way.
