Hi All,
Buddy's boat - he noticed oil sheen while getting ready for the season (Florida). Took it to his local indie who replaced the oil pump (and impeller while apart). Mech said to expect some sheen to start with then it would go away (I guess he was talking about residual oil in the lower unit due to pump replacement.
Oil correct on stick, ran really well - multiple throttle settings - ran really well - then a slight hesitation - so back to idle. Noted a lot more oil in water while idling back to dock. Then engine alarm when off so shut down. Oil dipstick showed nothing!
Here's photo after pulling it out ...
I was guessing perhaps the shaft was worn by the original seal and when they replaced the pump the new seal simply went back in the slot and is now leaking badly. Buddy does not know if they re-sleeved the shaft, or used an offset seal pump.
