Hi there, I have 2003 50HP 2 stroke and when I was running fresh water through it with the ear muffs and I noticed water was passing out of these hole in the lower unit. Is that normal ? Water was coming out of the normal spot at the top.

Water passing through these holes when running

There are a number of “voids” - hollow spaces - in the upper parts of a Yamaha lower unit
which are harmlessly filled with water while the engine is running.
However, some unfortunate Yamaha owners live where the temperature can fall below 32 F (0 Celcius)
and so to prevent damage to the LU from ice,
there are several small strategically placed “drains” .
it is therefore completely normal to see water coming out of those holes.
(You don’t want to see gear oil though- that would be evidence of a “blown seal” )
