Continuing the work on my one 1993 Yamaha 250 outboard. After adjusting the idle RPM (to 600 RPM in gear in the water) it is now running and idling fine.
The problem is the port motor may or may-not start on any given try (the stbd motor always starts). The port motor either starts first hit of the key and runs fine, or will not fire at all unless you crank it for quite a while a full throttle to unflood it.
The starting is quite intermittant, Saturday it started fine several times while moving it around to adjust the boat lift. Yesterday it started fine the first time, but would not restart when I shut if off after letting it warm up for 10-15 minutes.
What "should" I be able to see/hear/test for the prime/start system sequence? Sometimes I can hear the electric fuel pump run when I turn the key on, sometimes not. Should it only run on cold starts, or on all starts? What tells it to use a cold start or warm start sequence?
I have the service manuals on order, but they aren't here yet so I'm really looking in the blind.
