I am having and issue with the pump not transferring oil to main tank. Filter has been replaced, lines are clear. I can put 12v directly to the pump and it flows perfect. Plug the two pump wires back to factory harness on tank, turn the key on, and the pump comes on automatically. I can hear it running, but no oil is being transferred. I tried reading through past post to find a solution, figured I would just ask. The low level sensor on the main tank works, or rather the alarm does. I put 12v to the pump through the factory harness, the pump seemed to be running, but not pumping. Could this issue be in the harness plug itself, on the tank side? Thanks in advance for any help gentlemen.

When you turn the key to the on position only, and hear the pump run, is the main tank empty or full?
If the pump runs and transfers oil when the pump is powered directly, but it runs but does not transfer oil when powered through the oil harness, then a voltage drop issue comes to mind. Could be the connectors (usually is) or it could be the wiring itself.

When I turn the key on the main tank is between the low and full level lines. I am not sure at where the main tank level needs to be for the pump to transfer. I did not think that the pump should run constantly, but I could be wrong on that. Does the main tank have to get closer to the low level marker to allow the transfer switch to actually open? Also, I have tried to use the emergency toggle switch, it would not transfer that way either. It happened this weekend on the water, I had to take the cap off of the main tank and top it off so I could get back to the marina. My aux tank was low, but not empty. I refilled the aux tank, and left out again, got about 8 miles from marina, low oil alarm went off again. I removed the cowling, and checked the main tank, it was back down below 1/2. This is a 2003 engine will 206 hours on it. I use this boat 4 times a year, so it has very little wear and tear. Until this weekend, I have had zero issues.

You know the pump works if you supply external power, you know the alarm works, so that leaves a wiring issue! but, your fault descriptions are a bit vague and difficult to follow. Don’t fool around stabbing in hope, you need to trouble shoot methodically and correctly, do you have a repair manual?

pump running without it pumping oil has me wondering,
is something wired up backwards causing the pump to turn backwards?
can that pump turn backwards?
the remote tank has to show a level for the pump to turn on.
or the e switch can bypass that and run the pump
the main tank on the motor has 3 switches
the very bottom one sets the alarm
and the middle one should turn on the pump to transfer,
and the top one should turn off the transfer pump when it is fullLast edited by 99yam40; 07-10-2023, 06:26 PM.
