That look the same and the ones on my model diagram are of course the most expensive by 2. Please no “ just buy what SIM has on the website “ , I want real advice based on technical knowledge. Thanks
SIM is a different Yamaha dealer from this dealers website. Anyone that would use this forum to recommend a different Yamaha dealer be used would be a fool.

Thanks all, this has been helpful (bizarre defensiveness aside from a couple of commentators)

My ears are burning.... LoL. In my world of Repair and consulting,, when a customers is demanding what they want VS what's possible and most likely,, along with a workable time frame.. Will get a lot more done with the issue.. Tip: Always talk to the Tech that will be doing the work on your boat....
not The manager or Service writer... And better yet is after he looks/diagnose/inspects offer to buy him Lunch close by as his schedule allows... That opens doors most times or offer some fresh fish. When the fishing HOT,, a good Tech dosnt get out much.

So in the boat service industry it’s the client who buys lunch for the provider? That’s why I work on my own boat LOL!

Hey guys, brings up a question I have about the forum.... is boats.net going to stop supporting the forum?

I have an 2014 Etec EMM question and when I went to boats.net, I had to hunt for links to the forums. In fact when I found the links page at boats.net (google), all the links were disconnected.
Maybe my browser and pop blocker but my discovery goes deeper...

So I eventually get onto evinrudeoutboardforum and it is same as here. If I clic the picture in the upper RH corner, it brings me to the appropriate engine list on boats.net. EXCEPT my login doesn't seem to work. When I go to 'create a new account' my screen name is available. "ok, I guess they are all different, each requiring their own logon and pwd... ( I seem to remember being able to move between forums without logging in) except when I try to register as new, the "ARE YOU HUMAN" verification thingy is missing. and I am blocked out. There are discussions going on but I get same 'back of the hand' on Suzuki etc

I wrote email to boats.net and the clown who replied said they don't have a parts forum.

Thank you for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, we do not run a repair forum. There may be forums online that mention our company, but we do not offer this particular forum. We recommend reaching out to a local certified mechanic for a diagnosis. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for choosing Boats.net.

I happened to be on my email when that came in and I replied for further information:

Due to a high influx of customer phone calls due to the holiday and to make sure that we handle all customer interactions by the end of the day, we have shut down early. Please visit our website to find the parts that you need and to check the status of your order.

I know you guys do this on a volunteer basis and I applaud you for such. You have really helped me in the past, townsend, boscoe, 99yam40, rodbolt, frj1300, et al ... even the transient visitor members whom all have a wealth of experience simply being users, boaters, mechanics
A piece of my heart will wither without you guys. Just knowing that you are here if I needed you is comforting.

My guess is the Etec forum died from lack of use. Wonder what happened to Seahorse? He was the Evinrude spe******t. Hmmm. Forum bot didn’t like that. Evinrude expert…

Hey Keithbaja, thank you for the interest.

I have an intermittant no crank and it was xshoot and claimed to be the EMM needed to be replaced.
Is there some way to either 'reboot' the EMM to try like a reset or can the EMM be repaired like we can do with automotive ECM?
Somewhere in my googling I thought I found someone said that they can be reboot/reset with some diagnostic harness or something.
How about end user software availability?

turn key and most times nothing happens.

My guess is when you turn the key switch to the start position, the starter does not engage the flywheel and turn the motor.
You need to be checking to see if the key switch has 12V+ to it and if it is sending 12V+ out.
if you have 12+ leaving, then you need to see where along the circuit it is disappearing.

bad connections at battery Pos or Neg, neutral start switch, or anywhere along the system can stop the starter form being told to engage
