  • Outboard mounting hole repair

I think I might have mounted my outboard just a touch uneven. It leans just a hair to the left side when full throttle on plane. The transom also doesn't run straight when at full throttle. So how do I repair the holes in the fiberglass that I made when I put this 40 hp tiller on. Is there a way to repair them and then be able to drill new holes?

"It"? The boat or the motor? Is the motor loose?

    "Transom doesn't run straight"? Huh?

40HP... I take it that it's on a small boat? Does the motor look crooked? Are the holes equidistant from the top of the transom? That should be easy enough to check. If "yes", then maybe you just need to shift your load around. It's very normal for boats to list if the load isn't equalized port to stbd - and it's more pronounced in smaller boats.

Yes the holes from the top of the transom look the same. The only load in the boat is me and I have to lean to the right when at full throttle. The homes from the top of the transom are even but side to side the motor may be mounted a hair off of center. Didn't figure that would be that big of a deal as I could counter steer the motor but it handles real bad when at full throttle. Seems like it the transom don't want to track straight

measure it out and see how much your off. if it`s within 0-1" I wouldn`t think that`s an issue unless it has a very narrow beam.

could also be the torque of the engine, known as torque steer.

post a pic of the boat

Have you trimmed the motor up once you're on plane? Many boats will list to one side (in addition to the reason mentioned above) from having too much hull in the water.

Did you have issues with the previous motor?

I'm still not sure what you mean by the "transom doesn't track". Explain what "handles real bad" means. You gotta give more info.

If motor is not centered it will act strange.
as said what size is this boat?
            What is it made of?
How far off center did you mount the motor?
not sure anyone can give you info on patching the holes if you do not give any info on the boat.
