I have an older 1988 Yamaha 90 ETLG that starts and runs fine at a low rpm but as I increase throttle it seems to skip a cylinder or two.
A couple weeks ago as soon as I turned the key the alarm would sound - motor was cold so it wasn't from overheating. I emptied the oil and pulled the oil float switch. Still alarm and Safe Mode kicks in at higher rpm. I changed the thermostat and pulled and cleaned the overheat sensor. Still alarm and Safe Mode. So against all better judgement I cut the pink wire going to the alarm at the controls. It ran fine at high RPM with no alarm and no Safe Mode.
Took her out for a spin this past weekend and for some reason Safe Mode kicks in when RPM's increase.
Could this be a bad over heat sensor?
Bad Oil Float Switch?
Thanks for any help you can give!
