  • Low compression, too low?

I recently acquired my first boat, a 2009 Stratos 176XT with a 2006 Yamaha 70TLR. The compression tested at 115/110/105. Is this low enough to consider this motor used up? I'm considering putting a sizeable amount of money it it (fuel pump, water pump and impeller, all filters, etc) because I don't know the maintenance history on it and just assume it's never been properly maintained. But I'm wondering if that money would be better put toward a replacement motor. Or perhaps a complete rebuild. Any advice on what to do with this motor?

Rule of thumb is psi within 10% of each other….sounds like your motor is fine, compression-wise….

But shouldn't they be like 125 or 130? I'm not sure what the spec is. But it sounds like my readings may be acceptable. That's good news.

Your measurements are just fine. Well within Yamaha specifications.
