  • Yahmah 200 3.1 V Max EFI: Firing issues

I put a new 3.1 Liter power had on my buddy's 2001 Blue Wave it is a (0X66/ 61A block). A quick review, the motor on the boat was fried when purchased, two cylinders no.1 and no.6 were melted. Neither of us know the history of this motor or it's electronics. Installed the new motor on first start up we are getting fire to just one cylinder no. six, no matter how i configure the coils they all are good, and they will fire when plugged up to the no. six cylinder. I borrowed a ECU unit from a buddy's working boat. This did not change the symptoms. I am going to noid test the injectors this morning for correct pulse (fire). I am not sure if the CRS (crank shaft speed sensor) has a certain gap specification to advance or retard the timing?? Anyone know if i am heading in the right direction with it? Or has anyone had this problem and what was the cure?

    your out in left field.
there are no crank speed sensors.

what is the actual model number of the motor?

Without trying to butt in, you say you have no spark, but you are going to test the injectors? Stay focused and find out what to fix, do not jump from part to part, it only invites further trouble.

I have spark on one cylinder. ausnoelm is right there is not a crank speed sensor, there is a crank position sensor at the flywheel that when i looked at it i just assumed it was some kinda of speed sensor. I will not be assuming anything anymore. I turn key on and move throttle i can hear the clicking of the injectors and yes they all are pulsing.

there is a crank position sensor, throttle position sensor, air pressure sensor, coolent temp sensor, knock sensor, six pulser coils and two charge coils.
all that buzzing noise means is the injectors are getting a signal at rapid throttle opening. doesn't mean they are flowing fuel.
that's also why a model number is requested.
the s,sx and VX used a different ign/ fuel strategy.

I understand it is a 2001 200 hp the identifaction tag is to faded to read. On the title model is 2001. Is there a way to identify a Yahmaha?

Does the block have the alternate serial number on it? Should be a round decal with some numbers on it. Decal is normally placed on the block near the starter motor.

Look on the other side of the motor for the decal that shows the month and year of production. What is it? This will help to eliminate models that don't apply to your motor.

Look at the CDI. What numbers do you see on it?

When the new power head was installed did it have all of the electrics/accessories on it or what all of that stuff moved from the fried motor to the new block?

No the block is a remanufactored block there is a stamp. A round circel that reads 61A a line under the number 61A, and 03 under that, is that the one you are asking for Boscoe?

The number on the CDI is 66X-01/F8133774 0Z2
OK you are saying these numbers mean this is a X series block made in 2001?

Can you tell me stator output is? And also maybe the output on the crank position sensor, so i will know what componets are good.

Nope. The 01 is saying that the CDI is dash number 01. As in part number 66X-85540-01-00.

This particular part number was used on a VX200TLRZ which is an OX66 model (EFI) with a 20 inch mid-section. Doess the motor you are working on have a 20 inch mid-section?

Where are you getting the 61A designation from?

Here is what the alternate ID label looks like https://www.google.com/search?q=yama...mkMlebiRgwg%3D

Once we have a better handle on the motor you are talking about we can get you some specifications to test devices that are used on the motor. Don't want you to have incorrect information.

The 61A / 03 is stamped into the back of the power head directly below the lifting strap. There is no label like the one in this pic. Things i have done today just to eliminate some things. I ground tested everything i can find charge coils, stater, etc. and they are all good I pulled the fuel rail of checked for fuel spray i have that. I turned it over with the main power harness unplugged no change. I have fire on number six only.

Thank you so much for your help. I am doing my best on this end to stay focused. I have read tons of info. You are the only person making any sense of this "gremlin" i have to find.

A VX200 uses a 61A prefix cylinder head cover. Maybe that is what you are looking at. The block however has a 66X prefix. But this may not be cast into the block itself.
