  • upgrade to "Tilt and Trim" possible?

I have recently discovered that the C40PLRU that came with my 1973 13' Boston Whaler is a "tilt only" model, which is why it will not trim under engine load (why they would install an underpowered piston like this I don't understand!)

Is it possible to upgrade these motors with a "tilt and trim" capable piston? Tilt would definitely be a great upgrade... even for an older motor.

    Thank you.

C at one time stood for Customer value. As in, a less expensive model. Tilt only is cheaper than trim and tilt. Some models don't even have tilt. It is all manually done. To a man with a manually adjustable tilt a powered one seems like a luxury.

While possibly doable from a technical standpoint, adding power trim and tilt to a C40 with tilt only more than likely will be cost prohibitive. It takes more than just a trim and tilt assembly. New wire harness, new brackets and God only knows what else.

Have you thought of simply adding a trim and tilt unit between the motor and the transom? Here is but one that should work for your motor, even though it is only rated for up to 35 HP.

I would think the T&T unit off of a Yamaha 40 motor around your motors age would fit and work but the cost will be high new. I could be wrong though.
If you could find a used one you could try it and see if it will fit in place without any problems.
Looking at them I did not see a difference( both are single piston)

But Boscoes link is a valid way to go also.

some one makes manual operated hydrolic T&T aftermarket units I have seen years ago also
