When accelerating from an idle my 1989 225 Excel seems to bog with increasing throttle until I click the electric choke a couple of times. Then it will pickup and run to WOT. Should I be looking at fuel pumps, fuel pressure, or timing? All carbs were rebuilt last fall and the engine idles and runs great except for this. Anyone else with similar symptoms on an Excel? Not many mechanics in my area very familiar with the Excel, most have retired from that era. I run only fresh premium fuel but not always non-ethanol. Thanks in advance!

To follow up the solution to my problem, it was the throttle position sensor. When I checked the resistance it was way off spec and confirmed by my local Yamaha dealer. A replacement was ordered and installed with the voltage set at .41 volts in neutral with the carbs fully closed. The engine starts and runs the best it has in a long time.
